AI Writing Series for English Language Learners: Online workshops Online

AI Writing Series for English Language Learners

May 11-14, 2026

In this workshop series, we promote a balanced and strategic approach to writing with generative AI.  To do this, we combine traditional instruction in academic writing with generative AI engagement to encourage thoughtful use of all available tools.

Monday, May 11: Let’s talk about AI! (in-person event from 9-10:30 am)

Let’s get together to form connections and share our thoughts on AI!  In this face-to-face gathering, we will run discussions and activities so you will be more comfortable engaging virtually during the workshop series. Light refreshments will be provided.

Tuesday, May 12: Sentence rules and AI Patterns (online workshop from 12-1 pm)

In this lesson, we will discuss clauses and phrases as the building blocks of sentences. We will also analyze useful language patterns, vocabulary, and rhetorical structures in AI- and human-generated texts.

Wednesday, May 13: Concision and organization (online workshop from 12-1 pm)

This workshop will focus on writing style and revision skills.  Attendees will also revise and edit AI-generated drafts with attention to grammar, clarity, coherence, and appropriate tone for academic and disciplinary contexts.

Thursday, May 14: Using Sources: Exploring Ideas and Giving Credit (online workshop from 12-1 pm)

Join us to explore strategies for using sources with and without AI. We will learn about responsible uses of AI when exploring research and appropriate ways to summarize complex texts without sacrificing content or quality.
