GenAI Prompt Engineering for Studying Online

This online interactive workshop introduces prompt engineering as a practical tool for improving everyday studying. You will actively build and refine prompts that support core learning skills such as note-taking, summarizing, concept clarification, and active recall. Emphasis is placed on using AI intentionally to deepen understanding rather than shortcut learning. By the end of the session, you will leave with a personalized bank of prompts and a structured weekly study plan that aligns with your courses, timelines, and goals.

This session pairs with Prompt Engineering for Preparing for Exams. You can register for both workshops to create a cohesive system that supports learning throughout the semester and during exam preparation.

While this workshop is intended for undergraduate students, all graduate students and other University of Guelph community members are welcome to attend.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify what makes an effective prompt for learning and studying

  • Create prompts that support active learning strategies (e.g., retrieval practice, elaboration, interleaving)

  • Develop a personalized, AI-supported study routine and schedule

  • Evaluate AI outputs critically to ensure accuracy and depth of understanding
