Knowledge Synthesis Foundations: Navigating Knowledge Synthesis Online

This two-part series will provide graduate students in the sciences with the tools to navigate the complex process of knowledge synthesis. Knowledge synthesis, also known as evidence synthesis,  is an umbrella term for literature reviews that use transparent and reproducible methods to gather and synthesize research studies in order to answer a research question. Systematic and scoping reviews are common types of knowledge synthesis.

The sessions will offer a roadmap for choosing review types and executing transparent and reproducible searches. The content is designed to be particularly helpful for researchers working within veterinary science or applied human science contexts. While it is recommended that learners attend both workshops, learners may register for the full series or a single workshop based on their needs.

Workshop 1) Navigating Knowledge Synthesis

The first workshop will explore and define various types of literature reviews that fall under knowledge synthesis. Focusing specifically on systematic and scoping reviews, the session will help learners identify which type of review best aligns with their disciplinary contexts and research questions. The session will also introduce learners to essential terminologies, guidelines, and frameworks used to inform the process.
