Data Skills: Creating Data - APIs

APIs have emerged as a new form of delivering data to end users. Rather than downloading large bulky outdated snapshots of data that are only partially relevant to your needs, APIs enable individuals to issue specialized requests from data sources in real time. This power and flexibility enables new approaches to data use.

In this workshop, we’ll give you an introduction to one of the most common kinds of API, the REST API. We’ll interact with a number of APIs along the way toward our final goal of the Twitter API. No coding or engineering degrees required. By the end of the workshop you’ll know everything you need to start exploring other REST APIs.

Please bring a laptop computer for your own use during the workshop. Please make sure that you have the following software installed:

Please note: All software installation must be done before the workshop, please ensure that you followed any account creation or software installation instructions.  Out of courtesy to the class we will not be able to troubleshoot software set up during class time.  If you have any issues, please contact the IT Help Desk.
